program leader

Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, Program Manager, and Program Supervisors, the Program Leader will act as a positive role model and lead a variety of programs and activities for youth 5-14 years of age. This is achieved in alignment with the core values of BGC Canada as well as focusing on key issues and priorities of our community.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Ensure that BGC Battlefords provides a safe and caring environment that promotes positive child and youth development, relationships and mentoring opportunities for children and youth.
  • Lead and implement programs and activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, health and nutrition, physical activity and fitness, youth leadership and empowerment, and education programs. This includes attending scheduled field trips and ensuring engagement, supervision and safety is of utmost importance.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop children and youth in a safe, caring environment at all times while promoting positive youth behaviors, experiences and discussions, capitalizing on teachable moments and opportunities.
  • Explain principles, techniques and safety procedures to children and youth, while demonstrating proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Assist in snack preparation and disbursement. This may include assisting in the cleaning of the kitchen and other programming areas.
  • Assist in providing support and supervision for program volunteers.
  • Complete and maintain attendance forms and inventory lists, including daily program data and information as required.
  • Complete Incident Reports as required.
  • Provide First Aid when required.
  • Ensure program facilities and grounds are well maintained and clean at the completion of each program and at days end.
  • The Program Leader may be responsible for other duties as described by the Executive Director and/or Director of Programs

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be a team player.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, youth, and adults.
  • Must be able to work without close supervision.
  • Programming experience, education or training an asset.
  • First Aid experience

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

 

Other:

  • During the school year, position requires primarily after school, evening, and weekend shifts (excluding Stat holidays)
  • During the summer, position requires primarily daytime shifts, Monday to Friday (excluding Stat holidays)
  • Is required to work additional events being attended by BGC Battlefords.
  • Must be able to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status.
